Design for Reliability
Designing reliability into a system early in its life-cycle is the most effective means to ensure reliable performance and mission success. It is a well-known metric that the costs to fix a reliability issue for a fielded system is at least ten times more than it is to design the reliability in up-front. This course will provide details on the process for designing reliability into a system, the value provided by accomplishing this goal, and hands-on examples to solidify learning.
Course Contents
This five-day course provides a detailed overview of the design for reliability methodology, focusing on the processes, procedures, and tools to use during each phase of the life-cycle of a product. The course covers all areas of system design, including reliability program concepts, design and analysis methods, and test and evaluation approaches, highlighting general rules of thumb and other tips of the trade. Hands-on exercises and projects are also included to illustrate the application of the concepts covered in class. These exercises include statistical distributions, reliability modeling and redundancy calculations, reliability predictions, FMECAs, FTAs, and accelerated life testing/Weibull analysis.
Who Should Take the Course
RAM Engineers, Program and Project Managers, System Engineers.
What the Student Will Learn
The course attendee will have successfully gained the knowledge desired by demonstrating via the hands-on projects that he/she can apply design for reliability concepts, know when to apply the tools, and focus on ensuring requirements are met.
Included Materials
Attendees will receive a copy of the publication, “System Reliability Toolkit-V” and Quanterion Solution’s QuART PRO software, a $264 value.
Required Materials
Attendees are requested to bring a scientific calculator to participate in class exercises.
Course Length
This course will be completed in 30 class hours.
Presenter Biography
Mr. Wisniewski is a Senior Reliability Engineer at Quanterion Solutions and has more than 30 years’ experience in applying reliability, maintainability and safety engineering design, analysis, testing and screening methods and failure analysis and field support techniques on a variety of commercial products and military equipment/systems. Programs include radar, microwave/RF sensor systems, flight controls, mission computers, fixed and rotary winged full authority digital engine controls, regenerative liquid propellant guns, lightweight howitzers, and commercial and military hybrid electric vehicle drive train components.
At Quanterion, he leads efforts to support government and industry customers in designing reliability/quality into products and systems, solve product reliability problems and identify corrective actions using techniques such as electrical stress analyses, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, standard statistical analysis, and the collection, analysis and modeling of failure data.
