National Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week is a week-long campaign to call attention to the contributions to society and innovations that cybersecurity practitioners make.
It is a time to build awareness about the wide range of cybersecurity job opportunities, how cybersecurity plays a vital role in the lives of Americans, and how building a national cybersecurity workforce enhances America’s national security and promotes economic prosperity.
There are currently over 300,000 jobs open in cybersecurity according to CyberSeek and the national cybersecurity workforce is expected to experience a shortfall of 1.8million cybersecurity professionals by 2022. This deficit could be filled by local talent if exposed early to available educational resources for career entry and adults if they are reskilled to assume cybersecurity work roles.
The National Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week (NCCAW) focuses local, regional, and national interest to inspire, educate, and engage children through adults to pursue careers in cybersecurity. National Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week takes place during November’s National Career Development Month, and each day of the week-long celebration provides for learning about the contributions, innovations, and opportunities that can be found by exploring cybersecurity as a field of study or career choice.
During the week, learners of all ages, educators, parents, employers, and the community are participating in a national recognition of how cybersecurity plays a vital role in the lives of Americans and how building a national cybersecurity workforce enhances America’s national security and promotes economic prosperity.
NCCAW creates excitement and increases public awareness and engagement in building a strong cybersecurity workforce, emphasizes the demand and opportunities in the field of cybersecurity, increases awareness around the multiple career options within the field of cybersecurity, and highlights the numerous pathways to enter the cybersecurity career field.
