EDGE Award Winners Include Quanterion

Utica, NY, May 10, 2007

Four companies and two individuals who have played roles in the Mohawk Valley's economic growth have been named winners of the 2007 Leading EDGE Awards.

Award winners are:

  • Quanterion Solutions Incorporated of Utica;
  • Bartell Machinery Systems LLC of Lee;
  • Goodrich Power Transmission Systems of Rome;
  • PLC Trenching Company LLC of Clinton;
  • Nicholas O. Matt, former EDGE board chair; and
  • Harry A. Hertline, retiring Oneida County Board of Legislators Minority Leader

A model of homegrown entrepreneurial success, Quanterion Solutions Incorporated (QSI) was founded in Utica in January 2000 by its president, Preston MacDiarmid, and his partners, Seymour Morris, and David Mahar, to provide high quality quantitative engineering services to aid customers with critical decision making.

The founding partners, all lifelong residents of Central New York, brought to Quanterion Solutions more than 80 years of engineering analysis experience in the reliability, maintainability, and quality fields at the Department of Defense Reliability Analysis Center (RAC) and at the U.S. Air Force's Rome Laboratory.

The company's services and products have proven successful and demonstrated significant technical leadership in the reliability engineering discipline. While developing and perfecting its products and services, Quanterion Solutions has also enhanced the expertise and prosperity of its associates. SUNYIT and QSI have partnered in several successful research endeavors, most prominently the Department of Defense Reliability Information Analysis Center (RIAC) now housed on the SUNYIT campus. The campus location of the RIAC, whose day-to-day operations are managed by Quanterion, has spawned four research projects led by SUNYIT faculty, and 12 SUNYIT students have served as interns with Quanterion, two of whom were recently hired full-time.

In addition to the RIAC, Quanterion Solutions has contracts for the Brookhaven National Laboratory, the Army Research, Development, and Engineering Center, and the Air Force Research Laboratory.

In its relatively short seven-year history, Quanterion's employment has grown to 28 staff in three locations with an expectation to double by 2009, as the company is committed to creating jobs and improving the community through its work and volunteerism.
