Abstract
As a result of the diffusion of carbon from pearlitic steel 12Kh1MF toaustenitic steel Kh18N12T, welded joints in these steels are greatly embrittledafter long-term holding at high temperatures (560-700 C), and their propertiesare markedly impaired. The reliability and performance of combined welded jointscan be greatly improved either by retarding the diffusion of carbon from thepearlitic steel with niobium and titanium, which combine carbon in thermallystable carbides, or by markedly reducing the chromium content of the austeniticsteel. Positive results can also be achieved by reducing the working stresses,by means of an increase in the cross-section of the weld zone in pipes ofpearlitic and austenitic steels.
