Abstract
This is the final report documenting the research and development to define, prototype, and validate the concept of an integrated computational environment. The focus of this environment is the low level computationally intense phenomenological codes which have been developed and used in many engineering disciplines to aid in the design and performance evaluation of devices, equipments, subsystems, and systems. The first part of the report identifies the need for a geographically dispersed design environment, describes the deficiencies in the state of the art in distributed processing and collaborative design and analysis, and the objectives of this effort. Following a brief overview of the accomplishments of this in house effort and its associated contractual efforts, there are several chapters devoted to a more in depth treatment of each of the various broad areas addressed: data models and product databases, remote access of data and analysis tools, visualization of input and output data, and rule based, expert system pre-processors. The final sections of this report present a summary of the work done, recommended areas for further study and implementation, and an extensive list of references for further study of the details of each of the programs pursued under the overall project.
